Miracles
Sunday I taught my first sharing time lesson. We don't have a huge primary but I love each of the children. They bring a special light to your life. I taught on Miracles. I took a glass put a small amount of koolaid mix at the bottom so they couldn't see and then told the kids I was going to perform a great miracle by changing this bottle of water I had in my other hand to a delicious punch drink. I poured the water into the glass and it turned into the punch. All the kids loved the trick, course the younger kids really believed I had turned the water into the drink. They were in awe. The older kids still loved it but they knew it wasn't considered a real miracle, as I hoped they wouldn't. I asked them if they thought what I did was a miracle. The young ones shouted out YES! YES! While the older ones smiled and laughed and said no. Then I told them they were right that it wasn't a miracle because I had put koolaid mix at the bottom of the cup. Teaching children you seem to learn so much more by what they say and do. I talked about Mosses and how King Pharaoh wouldn't let his people go even after seeing several signs from God. We see miracles everyday but sometimes we don't see them as such. There are strangers that enter our lives sometimes when we need it the most to lend a helpful hand or even to provide a family with a good Christmas. No matter how we look at it they are small miracles and tender mercies. I've seen several miracles, miracles that others may not understand. Two of which I am about to express are miracles that I don't share too often because they are special to me. Its in those moments when you know there has got to be a higher power...or something. I don't always have the greatest faith and I am certainly not perfect but I can't deny what I felt in these moments. The first was when I first arrived in the Utah after moving here from California. I was very upset that we had to move...I loved California and my friends and family. I left it all behind to come here. We the day after we arrived I got really sick. I couldn't keep anything down for a few days and my body was severely dehydrated. I couldn't sleep and could move from the position on the floor in front of the tv in the basement. I had no energy and was sick and in pain. I remember the last night I was sick, it was like someone had turned off the switch and my body was at peace and I was able to fall asleep for the first time in three days. I remember coming out of sleep in the morning to the phone ringing and someone answering it. I heard the conversation that my great grandpa had passed away late the night before. I was very close with my great grandpa and I remember the last time we were able to be with him just before we left to Utah. To me I knew I didn't just get better on my own and I know it was my great grandpa's way of telling me that he loved me. I had a very similar experience years later. I was laying in bed at night reading with a flashlight. I was always found reading something. I remember seeing a light and thinking it was car headlights in the driveway looked up to see if I could see who it was. It was my great grandpa standing there like I remembered him and he was smiling at me. I felt this overwhelming peace and I never felt afraid. I instantly knew he was there for me and at the time I had been going through a lot. He wasn't there long and then he was gone. I tried to figure out what had just happened. Was I hallucinating...no. I was fully awake and knew what I had seen. I stopped reading and ended up laying there in bed thinking about it until I fell asleep. The next night I got really sick more so than the first time I explained above. I literally felt like I was going to die I was so sick since it went on for four days. I was finally able to rest. When I got better I know that my great grandpa was there as a comfort because he knew what was going to happen and holding on to that miracle of seeing him got me through what I had to go through. Do miracles happen? Of course they do. If we keep our hearts open we'll see them because they come in so many forms. Even in your best friend, your kids, your spouse, someone who walked into your life and has always seemed to be there when you needed them. They are all miracles. Keep your hearts open my dear readers for you may be a miracle in someone elses life.
