Pay it Forward

Everything happens for a reason. We can't always explain it in the moment. Maybe it's fate...maybe just coincidence that we are in the right place at the right time when someone needs help. We may be an answer to a prayer if we heed the prompting. The Lord knows who we are and how willing we are to help. Even if you aren't religious. It can soften our hearts in times of anger, it can bring us joy in times of trial, or it can simply enrich our lives with love and devotion of service. How many of us get on our knees in the morning and pray for an opportunity to answer another's prayer, or keep a thought in your heart to do one good deed a day. Think of what the world would be like if each of us took the time out of our busy lives to help another. I know our lives are like tiny ships on an angry vast open sea and all we can think about is making it out alive. Our masts and sails are wind torn, our courses set. What if our course was altered...for the good. Today was like any other day at work for me. My course was set in the direction of "Get the job done." Now, part of my job in the afternoon is to take what we call "The Mail Run." We make three different stops: The bank, a place that takes care of the bills we stuff, and the post office. We have a company car that we normally take so we don't have to take our own car, but today was different. I went to grab the key to the company car so I could leave, but the key was missing. Time was ticking so instead of wasting time going around to everyone in the office who may have used it, I simply offered to take my own car. And left. I got to the bank and noticed a few young college students trying to start a car in the parking lot. Of course I thought nothing of it since I was still in "Get the job done" mode. I walked inside and did what I needed to do. I watched as three or four people walked in and out so I figured they would be able to get the help they needed while I was doing what I needed to get done. Never assume! I walked out that door back to my car, and they were still at it only this time they were pushing the car. I didn't know how far they would have pushed that car but something inside me made me stop. One of the guys yelled over to me and asked if I had any jumper cables...I hesitated unsure if I did. And that is when the thought came to my mind of the 72 hour kit my parents bought me years ago, that I haven't needed to use, sitting in the back of my car. Sure enough I had jumper cables. I was able to help these four young student,s who really looked like high school students, but as they were handing the jumper cables back to me the girl with the broken down car thanked me saying "You really don't know how much I appreciate you helping me." In that moment I knew. I was an answer to someones prayer. I realized as I drove away that it was an answer to my own prayer. Every morning before I go to work I pray that if there is anyone who could use my help please place them in my path throughout my day. I love helping others. It brings joy to my life and helps me realize that we, like I said in my last blog, are angels that walk among many. To all my many readers, Pay it Forward. Listen to the prompting when you see someone in need. Do not allow our busy lives to shield us from the work of a higher power. You never know whose life you are touching and whose prayer you are answering.
