Warren & Arlene
Williams
Warren Williams was born in Medesto California January 6th 1922, to John
and Elsie Williams. Warren has a twin brother and two other brothers. He grew
up on a farm where he milked cows, took care of chickens, and harvested crops
such as beans, barley, tomatoes, and watermelons which he liked the most.
One
of Warrens favorite childhood memories was when he played baseball and football
in a small country grammar school. He also liked the Presidential Election in
1936 since he was into politics. When Warren was 18 months old his twin brother
saved his life when Warren fell into a watering troph and nearly drowned. His
twin brother ran around the troph until it got the attention of his parents.
Warren
was a track star in high school and could run the mile in 4min and 36sec.
Warren graduated from Medesto High school in 1939. He planned to further his
education and went to Jr. College for two years. Then Warren got a job at
Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank California. In 1942 Warren joined the Navy and
served with the Atlantic fleet, but he mostly served on land. His biggest role
was repairing and installing radar on small craft coast guard cutters and
subchasers. He was released in 1946.
Arlene

Idaho then rebuilt on a 80 acre farm. She was born in the evening of Feburary
25th 1925 to Wilma and Andrew Neilson. She had four sisters and six brothers.
She lived on a farm until she was 12 when they moved to town.
She
loved to work on the farm. One of her favorite childhood memories was running
on top of the snow in her boots during the winter and playing hide and seek
with her father and siblings at night outside.
Arlene
graduated from Madeson high school in 1944 and continued her education at
Rick's College in Rexburg Idaho for two years and graduated in 1946. She then
went to Nursing school in Idaho falls at the nursing hospital and graduated in
1949. She took the state board's and became a registered nurse in 1950. She
worked in nursing for 40 years. Arlene came to BYU to work at the Hale center
after she trained for two weeks at the hospital.
Warren
and Arlene met at a BYU dance in 1949. Arlene noticed Warren from across the
room and when the lights went out he came over and asked Arlene, who had a
watch on that lit up in the dark, "May I stand under the light of your
fluorescent watch?" She smiled and said yes. Then he asked her to dance.
Warren walked her home that night. They started to date a few months later in
Feb. 1950 and were married May 25th 1951 in Medesto California.
They
lived in various places in California for 25 years, and had six daughters,
which they love very much. Then they moved to Western Colorado and lived there
for 20 years from 1975-1995. Then they moved to Provo Utah where they have been
for 16 years.
Warren
was a soil scientist. He mapped soil anywhere from sea level to 11,000 ft. He
mapped a million acres in California and another million acres in Colorado. He
received a special award for mapping a million acres. They called it the
million acre club award.
The
first hospital Arlene worked for as a nurse was at the Mcfeeder's Hospital in
California right after they were married. She has worked in various hospitals
and Dr. offices. She worked mostly in California and Colorado.
In
