Wow! I am so bad at keeping you guys updated on my writing. I should be punished. Well I promise to be a little better. Here is a Christmas Story I am working on. Its called Angels for Christmas. Its just a little piece so enjoy.
The walk to the bridge felt awkward and silent. Their footsteps were the only sound crunching through the fresh snow still fluttering from the sky. Many of the houses in the neighborhood glowed with Christmas cheer amongst the dark December night.
Rachael glanced over at David, his tall dark features hunched over in solemn silence, and deep thought. What ailed his mind to drive him to quiet secrets? Rachael frowned concerned. She watched his melancholy walk like a man to the hangman's noose. Her fingers twitched at her side wishing they could touch and sooth his soul. She raised her arm ready to take his hand, but raised it to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She lowered her eyes and turned away fearing her sensitive heart would get in the way of the words and feelings dying to emerge.
David noticed Rachael's struggled attempt to keep from taking his hand. He wondered if he could challenge his feelings and face the reality of who he was and leave behind the only woman that lingered in his mind day and night. True, she was stubborn and a bit hard headed at times but she also held a piece of heaven in her eyes when she smiled. It was in her heaven he wanted to stay, her life he wanted to watch grow and flourish, between kisses, heated arguments, and future challenges. He wanted to take the journey with her in life. It was impossible. He was an angel.
How would she take his story? He was afraid. His assignment was to change her heart so Christmas wouldn't fade forever, but he feared his confession may trigger a relapse and another broken heart. The ending was drawing near. David knew whatever the outcome of the situation he would not walk away empty handed. Though his heart ached with goodbye, he knew his duty, as an angel, was to walk tall, climbing to every high peak with reverent triumph and a smile for every fond memory left behind. He'd walk on to another assignment with the same determined hope of changing their life as he did Rachael's. He realized where he belonged, though still sad, he was an angel nonetheless. His job was to help those who needed him. He may be far from Rachael but he knew a piece of her would follow him on.
Rachael stole a glance at David. She hated the quiet. In her mind those who kept secrets, feared. Rachael had enough. She stopped on the bridge and watched David take a few more steps before he stopped. He kept his head bowed, eyes on the ground. He searched for the proper words that might inspire instead of disappoint.
