Today I thought I would blog on my beginning, as a writer. How did I get that deep desire to write? Where did it all begin? Well, as I was digging around, trying to locate my plays, I stumbled on some old writings I did my freshmen year in High school. The first is a very short story, that my mother helpped me write, one late night after findinig out I procrastinated and the project was due the next day. I did that a lot, as I'm sure most teens do. Yes, I was one of them who tormented my poor mother, who sacraficed her beauty sleep to save my sorry butt from failing. This is an example of how loopy you get when you are up until the wee morning hours writing a paper.
Gate Z
One bright, early Friday morning on the thirteenth of July, flight number 007 was leaving L.A. airport at precisely 9:00a.m. and arriving in the Salt Lake City airport at 11:30a.m. My name is Sarah and I was on that flight.
The day started out as any typical day until I arrived at the airport, then things began to happen. As I entered the revolving doors a very large fat man came in from behind me, and I found myself back outside where I had first entered. Again, I made my way through without any difficulty.
Upon entering the airport I made a mad dash to gate Z. I thought to myself, "why gate Z?" As I was running down the long corridor, I tripped over a blind persons cane. As I got up I said, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't see you; I mean I'm sorry." I gathered my stuff and felt somewhat embarrassed but was giggling to myself.
As it neared 9:00 o'clock I decided to stop and ask for directions to gate Z. I came upon a ticket agent, a man. This man was wearing a blue uniform. His head was completely bald, and his eyes where the color of sapphires. He was just about to answer when his poligrip came loose and a full set of teeth landed down my shirt. As the teeth slipped down it felt wet and sticky. Not knowing what to do, I bravely reached in and pulled out the sticky wet set of teeth and handed them back. He thanked me, while pulling out a tube of poligrip. He was embarrassed, I could tell, but he pointed in the direction of gate Z. I turned around and ran. I couldn't help but burst out into laughter.
Finally, I arrived to the last gate. I stepped up to the counter and handed the ticket to the agent. The lady looked at me funny and said, "This is gate B not gate Z." Embarrassed I grabbed my ticket and ran back in the opposite direction.
I passed the man who was still fiddling around with his false teeth. I noticed that he had large hearing aids in both of his ears. I realized now, why he had directed me to gate B instead of gate Z. I felt stupid!
I ran towards gate Z. When passing the blind man, I broke my heel, and I began to stumble to the floor. Frustrated, I pulled off the heel and threw it behind me. It hit the blind man on the head and all I could hear him say was, "I've been heeled, I've been heeled!"
Without stopping I continued to run to gate Z. Upon arrival I handed the ticket to the agent and quickly walked on board and found my seat. I sighed in relief. As the plane lifted off the pilot announced, "Welcome to flight 001 bound to Iraq."
Yep, I'd have to say sleep deprived people should never write stories. But you have to admit you can come up with some really funny stuff. I actually enjoyed this story, even fully awake. So there you have it, the first story I enjoyed writing. It only gets better, but not until I graduated high school and started writing a lot more. To be continued.....on the next post. That story is longer and needs more room.
