The Window Watcher

Here is a peice that I started to write on about five years ago. It was a good idea for a scary more intense story so I started to write this story and realized it would make a better movie than a book, but who knows I might change my mind...again.

THE WINDOW WATCHER
Jay walked over to the black journal he threw on the floor. He started to pick it up when he noticed another black book hiding amongst the other books in the box. The black book appeared thinner than the journal he held in his other hand. He slowly reached down and picked it up. Jay's blue eyes filled with wonder as he read the letters on the front.
"FBI journal of criminal recordings, for public use only," he read aloud. He lifted his head and glanced in the direction of the door. He could hear Anna banging pots and pans and running water in the kitchen sink. He looked back down at the small black journal he held in his hands. His curiosity grew intense as he stood there in silence. He turned the book over in his hands contemplating on whether he should read it or not. Finally, his curiosity rate shot to overwhelming wonder. He opened the book and skimmed the off-white pages. He stopped skimming when he noticed the fear and alarm in the words that the women scribbled on the page. He began to read silently.

I went to the police station today hoping to find safe refuge from my fears. I tried to explain to the police chief of the sudden appearance of a strange shadow outside my window. He asked if I saw an actual person or threat against this shadow. My only answer was no, but I could feel a presence watching me when I am alone. He laughed and told me it sounded like I needed a psychic instead of the police. I begged him to investigate the situation, but he only laughed harder. Tears sprang to my eyes feeling the wave of embarrassment and mocking enter my body. The cheif noticed my tears and stopped laughing long enough to hand me this journal to keep track of the suspicious shadow around my cabin. He told me if there seemed to be any kind of threat from this shadow, I was to call the police station right away. He told me in the mean time to record all the movements the shadow made or any detail I noticed. I am afraid.
Jay flipped through a few pages feeling the fear of the young woman prickling at the back of his neck and slowly creeping into his body. The sounds around him faded and he felt alone. He felt close to the young woman as if her could reach out and touch her with his hand or smell the perfume she wore. He slowly paced the floor as he continued to read.

My husband seems so distant from me. His eyes appear clouded with emotion and a brick wall that seems to tower higher as the days roll pass. He pushes aside my fear of the man standing at the window. He thinks it has something to do with my wanting another affair. He has never been the same since he found me with another man. I blame myself everyday for the hurt in his eyes. I will never forget that night and the way he looked at me. My heart breaks. The strange man stands at my window watching me write in my journal. He stares with menacing eyes...almost in longing to get inside the cabin. My body shakes uncontrollably sometimes watching him just stand there pressed up against the glass. He follows me wherever I go in the house. If I leave one room and into anothers he's there moving slowly and eerily. I can't leave my house in fear he might attack me if I step foot outside. I don't know what I am going to do.
Jay's full concentration focused on the next pages of the journal. His heart beat heavily against his chest. He was afraid, like a child reading a ghost story in the middle of the night. His blue eyes remained glued to the book and he continued to blot out the rest of the world around him. The storm outside the window remained a distant hum in the back of his brain. He turned to the last journal entry and read silently.

Another storm ruins my plans to plant my flowers outside in my garden. Kyle thinks the tropical storm system is well on its way. He says we will see more storms pass through in the near future. I hate huge thunderstorms. They rattle the windows and shake the house with its angry source of power. The lightning cast shadows on the walls and leaves the rest of the area in darkness. Sometimes I can sense his eyes watching me, cold and longing. I thought I saw his face through the window as the lightning flashed in the background last night. I know he is gone, but the fear that lingers in my soul plagues my every dream with nightmares. His eerie movements and menacing eyes haunt my thoughts even when I close my eyes to rest. He's there staring at me then he fades into the black abyss of the forest, blending into the shadows where he waits for the right move. It is time for me to go feed the cat that Kyle hates. I bought the cat one day while Kyle was on a business trip. I was lonely and afraid so I bought a companion to keep me company.
"Jay what are you doing?" A voice called behind him. Anna touched Jay's shoulder. Jay jumped backwards in fright. He stumbled over some boxes and almost fell to the floor.
"What are you trying to do, give me a heart attack!"
